Five Lefts and 34 Rights

By Paul F Renneisen, Fort Lauderdale resident and community association Board Member

“Left just isn’t right.” According to ABC news, collisions are
cut nearly in half when avoiding left turns. United Parcel
Service (UPS) uses this evidence to save fuel for their delivery
trucks. Scientific evidence supports the safety of turning right
rather than left. You can’t go wrong going right.

Here in the Landings of Fort Lauderdale five lefts and 34
rights is the chance of a lifetime to enjoy a safe cruise on
your bicycle. For example get on your bicycle turning right

out of your driveway in the Landings, turning right at every
intersection except for turning left onto five streets and
going straight past 55th Street (Southbound) on Bayview
Drive. This route brings you home after safely navigating
the entire Landings in about one hour by just turning right.
Even if you stop to visit or observe the great greenery of
Landings landscapes, the ride is no longer then an hour
and a half. A great workout by any measure.

If you are going out right now to ride, remember to go past
55th Street Southbound on Bayview Drive (pass up this
right turn). Use care not to confuse 55th Street with 55th
Place. Now, those required left turns are from Bayview
Drive just before Bay Colony onto NE 60th Street. Then left
onto NE 59th Court. After 59th Court, go left onto NE
28th Avenue, followed by a left onto NE 59th Street. Deep
in the Landings is your last left from NE 55th Street onto
Bayview Drive Northbound. The rest of the route are right
turns. If there is another way to go, always turn right
except for the left turns noted above. You will route back

home after seeing every Landings home.

Patricia and I have been riding this Landings bicycle

route for several years through all the seasons.

Summer rides are usually at night due to the

high humidity and heat. Very rarely have

we been rained on. The route, as

described in this article, allows shortcuts

to your home should weather threaten.

Use your Landings Directory to see

the map of the Landings. You can

map you route home if you want to
shorten the ride for any reason
using the maps in the Directory. The
Landings Residential Association
Directory is available by joining the
LRA at 954-771-0300.

Remember these safety measures
that are easy to afford and do
before riding:

• Be sure your bike is clean, tires
inflated, and adequately equipped
