Commissioner’s Message

                                                  Dear Residents of District 1,

                                                 I
am pleased to provide you with an update on the outcomes of the 2025
Commission Prioritization Workshop, which took place on January 19, 2024.
During this workshop, we discussed and established key priorities that will guide
our efforts in enhancing the quality of life in our district. Here are the priorities that
                                                  we will be focusing on:

                                                  1. Public Safety: Ensuring the safety and security of our residents, visitors, and
workers is paramount. To achieve this, we will right-size personnel to meet the needs
of our city, improve police response times, and enhance efforts to recruit high-quality
police officers. Additionally, we will continue our city-wide gun violence prevention
John Herbst efforts and strengthen neighborhood relationships with law enforcement officers.

hotspots across the city. Partnering with service providers, exploring community
court options, and collaborating with county and hospital districts are among the
strategies we will employ to address this issue.
                                                  3. Affordable Housing and Economic Development: We recognize the importance
of providing affordable housing and creating economic opportunities for all
residents. To achieve this, we will enhance skilled labor opportunities, expand
affordable housing options, address food deserts, and revitalize key districts such as
Himmarshee. Collaboration with the county and evaluation of housing affordability
City Hall, 8th Floor criteria will be key in our efforts.
