LHIA President’s Message
Hello Neighbors,
I
hope that all of you have had a wonderful holiday season and were able spend
time with your loved ones and reflect on the blessings we all enjoy living in this
wonderful neighborhood and the vibrant city of Fort Lauderdale. Commissioner
Ben Sorensen has hit the ground running and promises to be very involved and
proactive in representing the neighborhoods of District 4. Commissioner Sorensen
and his staff intend to be very involved with the neighborhood associations and we
are looking forward to that.
The LHIA Winter Party will be held on January 12 from 5:30 to 7:30 at 1300 SE
12th Way by Cliff Lake. There will be barbeque meats and deep fried turkey. Soft
drinks and water will be provided. Feel free to being any other libations that you
like as well as any pot luck dishes that you would like to share. There will be a
snow cone machine for the kids along with other activities. I hear that there may
be some more adult snow cone options for those who so desire. This should be a
great party, I hope to see you there. You might even meet our Commissioner.
Security is a continuing concern in Lauderdale Harbors and we are planning a
special membership meeting on February 4th to address this important issue and
update all of you on the 13th Street Bridge replacement project. We have met
with City Staff who are coordinating this project who have explained the timeline
and how the installation of a passive gate could be coordinated with the project.
Construction of the new bridge is not expected to be complete until September,
2027. I expect many of you would not want to wait that long to see our security
concerns addressed, so there are other options to discuss in the meantime. Stay
tuned for the time and place for the meeting. If you are not on our email list send
me an email at rferencik@outlook.com and I will see that you are added.
Once again we owe a debt of gratitude to Barbara MaGill and her team of
volunteers, this time for the cleanup of the alley way to the north of Cliff Lake and
the cemetery. Hours in the hot sun have paid off with restoration of some tranquility
to that peaceful area. Check it out.
Finally, it is not too soon to make plans for our Annual Meeting which will be held
in March. Elections for all officer positions and three director positions will be held
so if you have an interest in serving the neighborhood in one of these positions
now is the time to reach out. I’d love to hear from you.
