ANNUAL MEETING
March 10th is our annual Lauderdale Harbors meeting at Bistro Mezzaluna. We are
excited to have our meeting at this private room in a new venue. I would like to thank
our sponsor of this event Risk Strategies, owned by Harvey Sheldon and Laura Trager,
residents of Lauderdale Harbors. They are your business insurance specialists.
It will be an important meeting to attend as we will be discussing and taking a
community vote on the direction and future for our neighborhood. Do we want to
add security? What is the community’s vision for Cliff Lake? Our guest speaker will
be Commissioner Ben Sorenson to update us on the future of what will be taking
place in District 4.
WINTER PARTY HIGHLIGHTS
What a unique and wonderful winter party, with lots of positive comments. I must
Barbara Magill thank NSU Art Museum and New River Art Gallery on Las Olas for sponsoring our
President, neighborhood at this event. We had food, fun and were educated with docent tours
Lauderdale Harbors of the Happy exhibit and the works of William J. Glacken. A party is always extra
Improvement Association special with a take-home gift bag. The museum provided a wonderful goody bag
lauderdaleharbors@gmail.com that included a book about the exhibit of William Glacken and 2 tickets so we can
return in the future. For the rest of the year Fort Lauderdale residents can get in free
TEAM LHIA and enjoy 2-for-1 wine on the last Sunday of the month, Noon-5:00 pm, and on the
Officers first Thursday, 4:00-8:00 pm, when there will be music and opera. Did you know the
Vice-President museum has also expanded to a Food and Wine Series? Also, consider membership.

While we have all heard about the County’s plan for the Convention Center
Treasurer expansion and new hotel, the Port itself is expanding as well. Port Everglades is the
Bonnie Rogers
largest economic driver in the County. They have an ambitious master plan
stretching out to 2038 (see picture next page).
Welcome Committee
One positive is to make the Port more efficient by putting similar elements of port
Chairman
Linda Brand workings together in order for it to run much more efficiently. An example is
keeping the container ships to the south port area while the cruise ship berths
remain north and mid-port. Plans also have better orientation to the railroad tracks
and adding additional cold storage. 95% of port revenue comes from cruise,
container and liquid bulk (gas and jet fuel).
Port Everglades holds the world record for cruise ship passengers in a single day at
55,964. That is only going to increase over time. Twenty-year projections have
cruise passengers increasing from 3.7 million per year to a whopping 6.5 million.
Traffic mitigation for these tourists comes in the form of a Bypass road plan close to
approvals. In addition, the next project will be a flyover for the trucks servicing the
south port area that come in on I-595 and Eller Drive. That is 5-10 years away.
Finally, 15 to 20 years from now, some sort of people-mover is in the plan to be built
from the airport to the cruise ships and Convention Center. Berths will be widened
