Dear Rio Vista Neighbors,
I want to address a growing concern in our neighborhood: crime in Rio Vista.
While we are fortunate to have some of the best crime statistics in Fort Lauderdale, it’s
incredibly frustrating to hear about another car being broken into or stolen. From what
I’ve learned, most of these incidents occur because car keys are left inside the vehicles.
Unfortunately, criminals are scouting all the neighborhoods for opportunities, and it’s up
to us to make their job harder. Please remember to lock your cars, golf carts, and homes.
First and foremost, I want to extend my thanks to all of you who continue to support
the Rio Vista Patrol. Your dedication to our neighborhood’s safety is truly appreciated.
If you’re a resident who hasn’t yet joined, I encourage you to become part of our
efforts today with an annual contribution of $600. Contributions of $1,000 or more, in
addition to the basic support, will be acknowledged in every issue of our magazine. We
are also exploring the possibility of adding more License Plate Readers to improve our
security. We are always looking for ways to enhance the safety of our community, so if
you’d like to assist or make a contribution, please don’t hesitate to contact me directly.
Please join me in thanking our board members Luci Mazza and Bill Kirk for throwing
our very own neighborhood version of Mardi Gras...our Carti Gras golf cart parade!
On March 1 the streets shimmered with banners and beads as the decorated golf
carts rolled through the neighborhood followed by a celebration at VY Park.
A shout out to Beachside Golf Cars, Tripp Scott, Tarpon River Brewing, MODS and all
the generous businesses who provided prizes and helped to make this event the huge
success it was. Check out Luci Mazza's recap of all the fun on page 12.
We have more exciting upcoming events that I’d love for you to be a part of:
Sunday, April 6th: The Rio Vista Car Show will be held from 12 PM to 3 PM on North
Ponce de Leon Drive. This year’s event promises to be bigger and better than ever,
and we can’t wait to see you there. A special thanks to our sponsors: Rebel Motor
Company; Sixth & Rio; Long, Jean & Wechsler, PA; Warren Henry Auto Group; and
Primo Liquors & Fine Wines. Be sure to see Alex Jean's preview on page 8.
Saturday, April 12th: Join us from 9 AM to 11 AM as we install 100 native orchids
in Hector Park. This marks our 4th year and the 5th group of native orchids we’ve
added to our neighborhood trees. It’s always a fun and rewarding experience, and
we hope you can join us for a couple of hours of community spirit.
Monday, April 21st: Our Rio Vista Civic Association general meeting will take place at
the church. We’ll discuss important topics regarding our waterways, with representatives
from the Coastal Conservation Association Florida and Residents For Resilience.
Maintenance Update: In 2024, we introduced new yard signs for Rio Vista Patrol
members, which have a different design than the older ones. We will be collecting
the old signs from residents who are no longer members. If your new sign still has a
2024 sticker, your membership is no longer active. If you renew your support for the
patrol, you will receive a new sign or 2025 sticker to update the sign you have. We
greatly appreciate your continued support of this essential service.
I’m looking forward to seeing you at our April events!
Warm regards,
Lori Sterling
