President Seawall Ordinance Amendments to 5 Feet from 3.9 feet
Ed Rebholz The City Commission approved the ordinance addressing resiliency standards
for tidal flood protection. The new standard of 5 feet NAVD, is up from 3.9 feet
Treasurer
John Calabrese NAVD. There are three conditions in which a property owner would be required
to raise the height of a seawall: when building a new seawall, when a seawall is
BOARD MEMBERS in significant disrepair (damage to more than 50% of the structure), or when the
property owner has been cited for tidal flow breaching the seawall and impacting

a neighboring property or right of way. A video about this ordinance is available

SE 20th Street By-pass project
Jason Munsour The SE 20th Street by-pass road project is moving but is still 2+ years away. This
Justine Whiteside road will intersect US 1 with a new intersection, including traffic lights to the
Convention Center on Eisenhower and 17th St. This project will help with the
Kstie Zabrowski congestion on SE 17th Street.
Fort Lauderdale Airport’s long-term plan includes a people mover, connecting
all terminals at the airport and the new Transportation Center between the north
and south lanes of US 1. The Brightline train will connect the Transportation Center
and the People Mover. The People Mover will go on to the Convention Center, and
this project is scheduled late in the decade. This will reduce traffic on 17th Street.
Happy Summer and everyone had a wonderful 4th of July!
