LHIA President’s Message
Hello Neighbors,
I
hope that all of you who were traveling over the summer enjoyed safe travels
and are looking forward to the enjoying the rest of 2024. By now you should
have noticed the first of the speed feedback signs that the city has installed on
Cordova Road in an effort to reduce the speeding on Cordova Road. The first sign
is for the northbound traffic and the second is to be installed south of the ‘S’ curve
for the southbound traffic. Hopefully these signs will help motivate speeding drivers
to respect the 25 mph speed limit and the city will be able to find the money to
reinstall the speed humps that I know many of you would like to see. While I
notice many drivers slowing down when they see the sign that has been installed,
we recently had a driver lose control of their vehicle at the ‘S’ curve and crash
through our monument sign at the north entry to the neighborhood destroying some
landscaping and ending up in the yard of one of our Rio Vista neighbors. Let’s be
careful out there.
Please mark your calendars for our Fall Neighborhood Event at the NSU Art
Gallery at One East Las Olas Blvd on Sunday afternoon September 29 from 2pm
– 4pm. The event is free to ALL Lauderdale Harbors residents including admission
and delicious bites. Wine will be available for purchase and LHIA members will
get a complimentary glass. Our Treasurer, Bonnie Rogers, will be there for those
who want to use this occasion to join or renew their membership in LHIA. The
2024 membership fee is $50.00 payable by cash, check or Venmo. Museum tours
in small groups with a Docent will be available throughout the afternoon. Please
bring your ID.
I’m sorry to report the passing of one of our long time Lauderdale Harbors
residents. Many of you may have known Pam Wall, a legendary sailor who
circumnavigated the globe and was a well-known cruising lecturer who served
the marine industry for decades. We are blessed to live in a neighborhood of
interested and talented people. Take the opportunity to get to know your neighbors.
Our landscaping committee has been hard at work over the summer restoring the
landscaping at the north and south entries to the neighborhood. Special thinks
go to Barbara Magill, Bob Magill, Tom Collins, and Mitch Sokoloff for their hard
work. Not only is the landscaping beautiful but I am told that the Iguanas find it
especially tasty.
Stay tuned for further news about our special meeting of the membership to
address the 13th Street Bridge replacement project and the installation of a
gate as a part of the project. Commissioner Sturman is planning to attend with
representatives of the Traffic Management Division to give us the latest and greatest
information about the bridge, the gate and the approval process that is needed for
the gate to be included in the project. Have your questions ready.
