President’s Message
2023
has come to an end and we should look back and be
proud. I appreciate all the board and committee members
and the time and dedication you all put in for the Landings
community. It is important to preserve the board, mostly to have a strong
unified voice with our government officials, with whom we maintain ongoing
communications.
There are so many reasons to love our community. It’s quiet and uncongested and
surrounded by canals. We are close to the beach and everyday conveniences. Many
of us are boat owners and it is a true luxury to be able to get on your boat from the
backyard. Most residents take pride in our properties and maintain them well.
Helena Cooper The high property taxes and insurance costs put pressure on many homeowners,
PRESIDENT however. We pay our share and expect our infrastructure maintenance to be
helena@coopgroupllc.com handled by the city and county.
OFFICERS Throughout the city we have cracking streets and curbs, unsightly leaning utility
poles and debris ridden canals. For more than a decade this seemed to be what
VICE PRESIDENT
Anne Maschmeyer people just accept.

Since I moved here in 2011, I have been told by our elected officials that the
SECRETARY power lines are beyond their control and up to the utility companies to ground.
Dana Mullaney
danatmullaney@aol.com The same few homes and boats that have been neglected and in disrepair for
years remain problematic to this date. The code compliance process is failing us.
TREASURER
Kathleen Cool My frustration at this stagnation and apparent neglect of our neighborhoods
kacool1@aol.com
where the tax basis resides in favor of appeasing the visitor industry led me to get
involved. Trying to understand and make a difference.
BOARD MEMBERS I learned a lot about our city by representing the Landings on the Council of Fort
Lauderdale Civic Association.
Cheryl Becker
becker_cheryl@hotmail.com In recent years, our Landings residents helped fund our license plate reader
Helen Bennett cameras (LPRs), placed on both ends of Bayview drive. The FLPD and other law
helenbennettnj@gmail.com enforcement agencies have access to these and we maintain them. It is, of course,
frustrating that some of the very infrequent crimes committed in this otherwise safe,
Scott Cooper
scott@coopgroupllc.com quiet neighborhood have gone unresolved.
Ronnie Dennis The Landings Residential Association has used our own funds to invest in light fixtures
fishinfam@aol.com for our main entrance, which the city helped us install and later fund two more.
Diane Dodich The improvement of our landscaping at the medians and monuments was granted
dionline94@aol.com
early last year and we as a board set out to collaborate with the landscape
Michael Maschmeyer designer right away. A multi-phased plan was presented and we hoped the project
mike@urbanrooftops.com would start last summer. Procurement issues have stalled this, however, and we
Shahina Siddiqi don’t have a definite date as to the initiation. The flat bridge repairs started and
shahina507@yahoo.com stalled last year.
Earlier this month we were informed that the city is working on a sidewalk
masterplan. Bayview Drive through the Landings was listed on the map. We were
told our input was needed before the end of the month! This was the first time we
heard of this and after raising our concern as to the lack of information we were
assured it was only in the initial information gathering phase. Still, this together
with a general plan as to grounding of utilities, lighting options and proposed
sidewalks, bridge and street improvements should all be put forward and discussed
as a whole.
