Hello District 1,
I
hope the New Year is off to a great start for everyone! The New Year is a great time
for resolutions and returning to projects with renewed vigor. In this spirit, I remain
resolute in my commitment to the issues that matter most to District 1. Two topics
have been at the forefront of neighborhood concerns as of late: roadway conditions
and the new noise ordinance. I’d like to take a moment to provide you with the latest
information from City staff regarding each issue.
Roadways, Alleyways, and Sidewalk Assessment
On November 8, 2024, the City’s consultant, Jacobs, submitted the final City-wide
John Herbst Condition Assessment Summary for roadways, alleyways, and sidewalks within
District 1 Commissioner the Public Right of Way in Fort Lauderdale to the Public Works Department. Jacobs
City of Fort Lauderdale used light detection and ranging (LiDAR) data collected in Fall 2022 to perform the

American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO)
Pavement Condition Index (PCI) scoring.
Based on PCI scoring, roadways and alleyways were placed into seven categories:
Good, Satisfactory, Fair, Poor, Very Poor, Serious, and Failed. GIS maps utilized the
data to provide a spatial visualization of the roadways and alleyways by category.
The project assessed a total of 141.5 lane miles in District 1. I’m pleased to report
that 94.5% of roadways in the district were in the Good to Fair categories and none
of the roadways had failed. The remaining 5.5% of roadways were in Poor to Serious
Condition. Reports like this help the City identify areas of concern and aid in the
City of Fort Lauderdale prioritization of roadway repairments.
