President's Message
The Landings Residential Association
Greetings Neighbors,
Lockhart Stadium Update
I don’t know about you but I am very excited about the plans the city has for
renovating Lockhart Stadium and that entire property. I have fond memories
(because I am pretty old) of going to Lockhart Stadium for high school football
games (I graduated from the old Fort Lauderdale High School, which proves I am
old.) Back then, both Fort Lauderdale High School and Stranahan High School used
Lockhart Stadium as their home football field. Since that time, the property has also
been used for a Yankee’s baseball training facility and for professional soccer.
Over the past few years the property has not been used for anything and has
become overgrown and the facilities dilapidated.
Now the City of Fort Lauderdale has entered into an agreement for a professional
soccer organization to develop the property. Construction has already begun with the
demolition of the old Lockhart Stadium. Their plan is for the professional soccer facility
Mike Watson, President to be completed for the soccer team to begin playing there by February, 2020.

DIRECTORS In addition to the MLS soccer fields the property will include a public plaza, several
community fields for local athletics teams use, two public parks, a parking garage,

and a performance center. In addition the organization will also provide a new

football stadium to hold 20,000 people for use by Fort Lauderdale High School and
Myra Freeman Stranahan High School. All of these improvements are being funded by the MLS
Priti Maheswari soccer organization. The only thing the City needs to pay for is the performance
Susan Peirson center. This sounds like a win/win to me. And it is just a short distance down the
Jim Becker road from our neighborhood.

Ronnie Dennis provided. Some of the ideas suggested are making sure it includes a hurricane shelter,
possibly a public swimming pool, basketball courts, playground for kids, a dog park, a
