President's Message
The Landings Residential Association
Landings Centenarians and Crisis
Centenarians? In The Landings? Seriously?
es! Seriously. When my wife and I arrived in The Landings in 1993, our
Y neighbor across the street reached out to invite us to dinner. Harry, 94, an
original owner, drove us to a local restaurant. He shared his experience of being a
young bond trader on the floor of the stock exchange in New York when it crashed
in 1929. He still had his black bond amortization book. Harry’s reach out is typical
of centenarians.
Another neighbor on 57th Street would start a walk that passed our house on 57th
Court nearly every afternoon. He was 102. He remarked that the dentist wanted to
remove a wisdom tooth. He had all the rest. The dentist worried about his age but
the recovery was as if he was a youngster. Also an original owner, his family had
moved from downtown Fort Lauderdale to The Landings canal development when it
was featured in Life Magazine.
Paul Renneisen, President The Landings Boat Club met first in 1965. Officially incorporated in 1979, the
Landings Residential Association Landings Residential Association (LRA) is long-lived by corporate standards but still
well short of 100 years. So, if we have Centenarians in The Landings, how did the
LRA community assist these long time owners?
OFFICERS While genes, DNA, plays a role, the rest is up to you. If we allow “crisis” from
social and print media to impact us, we won’t be centenarians. Not to worry is the
President number 2 item of 8 according to a Chatelaine.com report. The other characteristics
Paul Renneisen of centenarians listed in the report are: 1. Never act your age; 2. Shutdown stress;
3. Eat quality; 4. Sleep and have sex; 5. Move every day; 6. Connect; 7. Tweet
Vice President about it; 8. Just believe.

While The Landings may not be a longevity hot spot, we certainly have had
Secretary centenarians. How did The Landings score in the eight centenarian behaviors
Dana Mullaney above? Let’s see:
1. Never act your age. We certainly don’t do that in The Landings or do we?
Treasurer Our tropical environment encourages activity.
Mike Watson
2. Shutdown stress. We could do better. But over the decades we have been a
quiet, get away location. A backyard canal visit with a fishing pole is an easy
DIRECTORS escape.
3. Eat quality. Year-round fresh fruits and vegetables are growing right here. Our
James Becker nearest Farmers Market is on Thursdays, north of 62nd on US 1.
Ann Marie Dari
4. Sleep and have sex. Harry, 94, didn’t look much older than his wife, in her

60’s. Thirty year age differences didn’t appear to be an issue for the over-60 crowd
Robert Korn
in The Landings. The Health report indicated that “A little nocturnal activity…
John Marquart
enhanced longevity, adding as much as four extra years” for women.
Susan Peirson
Casey Shore 5. Move every day. Snow has never kept me from moving about in The
Landings. Yoga on the dock anyone?
