Commissioner’s Message
Greetings, District 1 Neighbors!
I
wanted to take the opportunity
to celebrate what a productive
year it’s been! Thank
you for your involvement
and dedication to our
neighborhoods, district, and
city. Your engagement, along
with the collaboration between
the Commission, staff, and our
John Herbst community, has allowed us to
District 1 Commissioner set priorities, make progress
City of Fort Lauderdale
jherbst@fortlauderdale.gov on parks and rezonings,
improve roadways, foster
developer and neighborhood
collaborations, and celebrate
new businesses. Here’s a
quick update on what we’ve
achieved so far.

mwhiddon@fortlauderdale.gov closely with Parks staff and neighborhood groups to improve and add parks using
954.828.5033
funds from the Parks Bond.

District 1 Commission Assistant • Bal Harbour Park: The neighborhood pushed for a passive park, and thanks to
afoor@fortlauderdale.gov strong community support, final Commission approval for the purchase of land
954.828.6132
was granted.
• Lockhart Park: 100% engineering drawings are being finalized. After that, the
project will go out to bid and permitting. We aim to break ground in the spring.
• Florinada Park: We’re moving forward with plans for a playground, with designs
expected soon.
• Joint Used Parks: We have been working with Parks staff, Sunrise Middle School,
and Poinsettia Heights Civic Association on enhancements to the middle school’s
pool, play field, and shade structures to create a better experience of the park by
students and neighbors.
