MAKING CASA FRIDA
The Real Thing
By James Martin Fletcher
asa Frida es la verdadera cosa! It’s the real thing!
This venerated northeast Fort Lauderdale dining
Clandmark is named after the famed Mexican
painter, Frida Kahlo, and is a loving tribute to the artist, in
style, décor and menu, steeped in the finest culinary
traditions from our neighbor to the south, a labor of love
by the epicurean couple who created it.
Not a typical Mexican or “Tex-Mex” restaurant, Casa Frida
is something quite different, charming and unique, filled
with enticing aromas of simmering mole sauces and an
artistic feeling brought to life by proprietors Victor and
Julieta Bocos. They created this setting to share their love of
the best in Mexican cuisine, imparting a welcoming
hospitality and exemplifying a lifelong reverence for
Mexico’s rich culinary heritage.
Born and raised in Mexico City, Julieta and Victor met in
Cancun, married, and soon began a shared love affair
with all things delicious and elegant from their homeland.
In 1992, they moved to Chicago, worked together at a
large hospitality corporation there, then decided in 2009
to move back to warmer climes, landing in Fort Lauderdale
to settle here.
Opening its doors on Federal Highway in 2012, Casa
Frida quickly became a favorite for South Florida food
lovers. The menu presents an array of gourmet selections,
